More of my fair city.........Paducah, Ky

No trip downtown with camera in hand would be complete without pictures of the floodwall. In 1996 the City of Paducah commissioned Robert Dafford and his team of muralists to capture Paducah's rich history in paintings. Currently there are 54 completed. The pictures do not do them justice.

Irving Cobb, author, humorist and columnist and our own Veep Alben Barkley (Vice President to Harry S. Truman 1949-1953) are depicted in this one.

Look how these three are all one picture. How our city looked in the early 1900's.

I love living where I do. Of course I do live in the country (20 miles from the city of Paducah) and would never have it any other way. But, if I were single and/or didn't love my horses and open land like I do I would love to live downtown. There are so many charming apartments and houses. Most in part to the Artist Relocation program that I mentioned yesterday.

Next post will be some of those charming houses.

Great pictures TB. My wife, Betty, has relatives who live in Paducah. Her cousin, James Wade, is retired. His wife, Libby, is the rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Paducah.

Regards,

Dan

Thank you Syd. Dan, I have visited Grace Episcopal as a kid. Went with a friend. There was a lot of kneeling. It is a beautiful and classic church. Small world huh?

Beautiful pictures! I put a couple into Paint Shop Pro (One-Step-Fix) and it REALLY enhances them.

And yep, Paducah is right down the river from...what city was that? -grin

Be glad to send you the "fixed" photos
but don't know where to send? If ya mail me a no-topic thing, it would be no problem...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU...ALSO! Don't even know your name, dad-gummit...
(Some things I do not have to know!!! OK?)

Thanks for this great post. I know an artist from KY and your state is really awesome regarding the arts and promoting them in very fine ways! Beautiful.

I love the flood wall. Richmond has one, too, but it looks boring.
