Happy New Year

It might just be a happy one for me and my family. I just hung up from talking to Ryan. He has made a decision that could effect his entire future. He is going to a Christan place for men with alcohol and drug problems. It is a place he has been before but left way too early for the program to work. I wish I could say it is a 12 step program but it isn't. But it is better than the alternative which is homeless, dirty, cold, hungry and messed up out of your mind.

This is a miracle for me. I didn't know what was going to happen to him. I was afraid of what it might be. This is great news. He told me that he is tired of feeling like he does, of not having a drive in life, no purpose. He wants to put everything behind him and become the man that God made him.

Time will tell. And I will keep you posted.

This is hopeful news. At least he is safe, and any clean time is good time. And this might be THE time. God Bless!

Re: your last post.I can't believe
one of the churches does not have a support group. They may not call it AlAnon. My church calls it something else, but it is a 12 step program, but it is not exclusive to alcohol. All are welcome. Call(or look online) at local churches. They may call it Celebrate Recovery. Churches have groups, and I did not have to be a church member to go.
I go to a regular AlAnon group also, but that is with the HP and the formal rules. My other group is faith based, and slightly more informal because we all know each other well. I like them both, they are each helpful in their way.

This is so hopeful! He wants to be the man that God made him to be, sounds like he is on the track. Let's hope he stays there!

TB, if it's Teen Challenge and he hangs in there it may change his life. I was on the board of a Teen Challenge in Ohio and I was very impressed with their program. They have a lot of structure, but they don't force the participants to stay there - it's their choice. And, I personally know several whose lives were (and still are) changed for the better.

Dan, It is similar to Teen Challenge, based on the same principles as I understand it. I think the best news is that he is excited about it and wants to go. That's half of the battle right there.

It's great that Ryan is making a decision like this! God can work anywhere and it might include the 12 steps without actually being a recognized AA program.

Keeping all our sons in prayer.

Happy New Year.

Good, good news. I hope he sticks with it long enough this time. Definitely a good first step.
