Sunday late afternoon ride..........awwwww

I did get my ride in today. I left the house about 3:30 or so and got home around 5pm. It was still a bit hot but I really enjoyed it. Jones did GREAT! She didn't spook one time and other than being barn sour (which is to be expected since I don't ride her enough) she was a jewel. Even though the horseflies were driving her crazy. I don't know how many I killed by smacking her arse but it was several. At one time she started bucking just a small bit. When I looked at her butt there was a large horsefly on it. Guess I can't blame her. I think I would buck too!

After we got home I turned her out, brushed her coat and fed them. I gave her an extra amount of grain since she was such a good girl. Afterwards she took a HUGE drink of water then wandered out and rolled in the dirt. I think I have finally found my match with her. I felt so safe and comfortable on her. She is just the right size for me, is young (only 7 yrs old) and she has warmed up to everyone in the household. Joe held her lead rope while I saddled her. She has always been leery to be saddled. Acted like she was afraid but today she didn't even flinch. She just stood there like she had done it 1000 times. I think it helped that Joe was holding her because he has really been spending a lot of time getting close to her. It is hard to believe this is a guy that, at one time, was terrified of horses. I guess once you get the right ones then things just fall into place. For that I am very grateful.

Stephanie isn't home yet. She went with her boyfriend and his family to the hospital in town to see his Grandma who is in ICU and not doing very well. She was just getting to know his grandma and this happens. I hate it for them and for her. She was so excited to have a grandmother. She lost both sets of hers when my parents died in 1999. She doesn't even know her real dad's parents. They live in California and have never seen her. Can you imagine having a 16, almost 17 yr old granddaughter and have never seen her?

I am about 2 minutes out of bed. Between having my precious here this weekend, riding in the heat and then having a yummy dinner my bedtime is near.

I hope everyone has a wonderful evening and an even greater Monday. Until then...........

Sounds like the perfect wonderful day riding. I'm glad for you that Jones did so well and that you are feeling she's the right match.

I hope things just get better and better all the time :)

Lovely day, you had there. I'm a bit timid with horses, but given time I think I could learn to like riding. My brothers both have them and as long as I'm with someone, I love riding.

Isnt it great putting your horse away after a relaxing ride? It sounds like both Hubby and the horse have found a comfort zone together and are more relaxed about things generally. It's wonderful.

Sounds like a great afternoon. I had a gelding that I had that compatibility with. He was totally reliable.
