Awwww Memories

Growing up in a somewhat small community our shopping was limited to certain shops. One of which was Finkel's Fair Store. I loved to go to this store to shop. They carried jeans, overalls, boots, belts, shoes, clothes of all kinds for country folk. I can remember the wooden floors that creaked when you walked on them.

The town is no longer a small country community that it once was. It now sports a huge mall with anchor stores Sears and JC Penney's. Restaurants galore, theatres, large book stores (Books a' Million) and even a PetSmart. What used to be a U Pick Strawberry Hills is now all of the above.

Fortunately some of our wiser folks in Paducah saw the need to save our downtown area and am I ever glad that they did. You see, when we were kids we would "go downtown" to shop, go to the movies or just hang with our friends. Several years ago our downtown area was falling prey to crumbling buildings, unsafe places and generally just falling apart. But now it looks pretty dadgum good.

Such as the Four Rivers Center a.k.a. Luther Carson Center.

We have many celebrities that play at the Carson Center. They vary from country artists such as George Jones to comedians such as Sindbad. I have never actually been there but I am told it is very nice inside. Not a bad seat in the house.

We also have the river which is a definite thing to see when visiting Paducah.

This one is cool because what you do is get someone from out of town and go really fast toward the river and it appears to the passenger that we are about to land smack dab in the middle of the Ohio! It is priceless to watch the fear in your loved one's eyes!

We also have 2nd street which has many ethnic restaurants.

The Market House Theatre is in the middle of second street. This side goes north to south and the other side goes south to north. And I didn't make that up!

There is also this really cool train that kids just love to climb on.

At times you can spy vintage cars downtown like this one.

All in all I love working in this town. I love where I live and am grateful to have what I have. And any time that I forget this I only have to think of one thing:
