Lots of animals!

As I got closer to my house yesterday coming home from work, I saw so many different animals. First there was a small herd of deer standing in the road looking at me. They finally scampered into the woods but not after a short stare-down. I love to see deer in the wild.

Then, as I rounded the turn by Mr & Mrs Cannon's house, there was a young turkey in the road. He had somehow become lost from his family. He was so confused. He kept walking along the road and every time I would try to slowly drive past him he would walk in front of the car, then cross back over to the other side again. I could tell he was in despair as he had to be frightened to death. Finally he found his way to the small ditch and I was able to get past him. As I topped the next hill I saw what looked like a wolf crossing the road into the woods. I imagine it was a dog and not a wolf. We have coyotes here as well but it was too large for that.

As I rounded the next turn there was another deer in the road. It looked like a yearling. No stare-down this time. She quickly cleared the barbed wire fence and ran into the field. I wished I had my camera with me.

I mentioned all of the animals to Joe when I got home, especially the turkey. I couldn't stop thinking about him. And guess what? This morning the poor baby was still lost at the same spot in the road. I am going to let Joe know and see if there is anything he can do to help the little guy. He acts like he doesn't know how to get past the fence. I can't imagine what is going through his little head.

****UPDATE**** Joe just called me from the area I saw the little guy in and there were no turkeys around. All I can figure is that he finally found his way home. Bless his little turkey heart.

Poor thing. There is a reason they are called turkeys!

Laughing at the comments above. Maybe the little turkey should seek advice from the chicken (who crossed the road).

I love seeing critters! I think your were there for several reasons. First, because you are an animal lover, second, you would take the time to slow down and make sure God's creatures made it safe across the road!

I bet the pups would love to play with a turkey. At least for a little while.

I hope that he is okay and found his way home as well.

Now that story is a real turkey. (I can't believe Daave did not say this.)
