I have a bone to pick

but I don't know who to pick it with. Every morning and afternoon I listen to the local TV station on the radio in my car. It is how I catch up on most of the news for the day. I enjoy switching back and forth between some sweet country music and the news. In the afternoon I enjoy me some Dr. Phil. Call me what you will but I like it. But guess what? After today I won't be able to listen to either one of them, Dr. Phil or the local news. Because of this new digital crap. DTV or whatever it is called. It seems that once the station switches to digital broadcast I will no longer be able to hear it via radio. This does not make me happy.

During the ice storm in January of this year most people, in fact dare I say everyone, was without power for an extended period of time. We're talking days here. We were out for 10 days. Anyway, the only way we had to know what was going on, where to get kerosene, ice, gasoline and such was by radio. Everyone listened to 87.7. If that same storm or the equivalent of was to happen we would be out of luck.

We have a new TV and I can't see any difference between the reception we got before and now. Am I missing something here because I just don't get it. Can someone enlighten me?

You are not the only one. I soooooo do not get it. Aren't there many other problems in this world that we could be focused on? I do not get the point of it at all!

Yeah, alot of people are going to have a problem watching t.v. after the switch. I don't think we will. I haven't turned the t.v. on yet though. I'll be very upset if I can't watch t.v.!! Although I have hardly had it on in the last 2 weeks!

I threw the TV away 13 years ago. I don't care what they do to TV. But messing with my radio is another story. I've heard there's some sort of entertainment tax the government wants to charge radio stations now.

If you have cable or satellite you won't notice a difference. 47% of people here that would need a converter box didn't have one by today. The deadline was extended and it was on TV--incessantly. But still people ignored it and now they are upset. I swear, some people's kids.

Not sure how or why it interrupted the radio reception, but if So isn't happy about it then I am not, either.

The decision had nothing to do with helping consumers. It was always a plan to help the government. It frees up some airspace that was basically used by the 'free' (non-cable) stations so that airspace can be sold to cell phone companies as they expand their use of broadband transmissions.

It makes money for the government.

It was done "FREE UP" space for emergency responders to stay in better contact. (Supposedly) It will all shake out soon. Yeah, that's what "they" say. Here in Houston you can tune in on FM 2.1 to get channel 2 on radio, or so said the newpaper today. Just one more thing to................

We are just about ready to say poop on TV. I think the reception is worse, the way it constantly freezes up and then breaks up all over the place. But yeah, I guess we can thank the federal government for this one.
