The waiting has ended

but not like I expected. I never did hear from the nurse yesterday. I got up this morning and did my usual shower and pulled out the gauze as I was directed to do. Afterwards, I was blow drying my hair and realized the wound was bleeding, all down my back. I quickly woke Joe up to see what was going on. He said it looked bad and I needed to go to the hospital. After I sat down and cried and felt sorry for myself, I gathered myself up, shook off the pity party and got dressed.

The experience at the hospital was far from perfect, in fact it was very trying. Lourde's is usually really good about getting you in and out but today was the exception. They probably knew I was coming so they made sure it was more difficult. Just kidding, sorry, the pity party tried to come back. Anyway, I finally saw a nurse who said there really wasn't anything they could do (thanks a lot for the wait lady!) and she sent me to my surgeon's office where the ever so friendly nurse, Teresa, took care of cleaning and redressing the area. Joe watched her to see how she was doing it and learned a few things.

We left and stopped at Burger King for a quick breakfast before he dropped me off here at work. I started to just go back home but decided it would be best to stay busy today. I will go back to see the surgeon Thursday afternoon and hopefully this crap will be over soon. I can't tell you have sick I am of dealing with this continually. It is getting harder and harder to look on the positive and grateful side.

Head wounds are just awful, not just because you have to work around your hair, and your hair gets gunky and that makes you feel dumpy. It seems like head wounds take longer to heal.

The bottom line is, you have to figure out how to take care of things on your own, because you're the one who is affected. I had a surgeon wrap my foot once, it looked like a 6 year old had done the job. When I pointed it out to the nurse, she scolded me for trying to wrap my own foot. (snicker) I did a much better job of it myself, once I figured it out.

Don't bother trying to stay cheery about everything. Personal pity points are like vacation days, you have to use them or they go away. It's best to get bummed out about something that will be inconsequential in the long run, you can safely be morose for a while knowing that things will be better soon.

All I have to do now is remember this wisdom next time I have a problem myself and freak out.

You know anything dealing with your head is hard....it bleeds alot...when my kids in the past have head wounds it almost never seems to quit bleeding.
Example....madison got hit in the back of the head with a gold club when she was 4. Big gash...blood everywhere..7 stitches....later....I didnt think i would ever get that blood out of her blond hair...head injuries are just more difficult....it will be fine..thursday will be here before you know it.
Praying for you.

I hope that this gets better for you soon. I'm sure that this isn't much fun at all. Hang in there though and maybe Dr. Joe can fix you up in the mean time.

Cheery is sooo over-rated. Embrace the frustration and enjoy your pity party.

You can be cheery when you no longer have a head wound.

In public though, walk around talking endlessly about lobotomies, blue skies, skittles and rainbows-it'll make people wonder.

"Taste the rainbow!!"

Yuck what a morning for you! I knew that nurse wasn't going to get back to you yesterday, Mondays are the worst when trying to get a hold of them.
This too in time shall pass, it's just a matter of surviving it until then. Buckle down and just trudge through it. Life will get better I promise!

I agree with several comments above. It's OK to feel down at times. You need to get that out of your system. The key is to not let your down times begin to control your life. Do what you did - enjoy them for a time, then get on with life.
