TGIF!

It's been a long week, or at least it seems like it. I am glad it is Friday, how 'bout you folks? Last weekend our super nice neighbors, Mr and Mrs Cannon, brought their tractors over and turned up 2 of our pastures. It was way past time to re-seed the grass. Joe went to town and got a combination of 3 grasses plus fertilizer. That was mixed in a hopper. Have you guys ever seen one of these?

They are as handy as a pocket on a shirt. We were able to mix the seed and fertilizer in the hopper, then Mr Cannon pulled it behind the tractor and seed and fertilizer flew all over the place! The horses were curious as to what the sound was, then some of the seed would hit them and they ran off. It was funny to watch.

I didn't get any pictures of the horses running. I'm not sure why. I know I was trying to avoid being hit by the flying seed and also trying to keep it out of my large glass of sweet tea.

Mr Cannon is lowering something over the fence. We ended up having to take down a post in order to get it back through. We weren't thinking when we put that gate up and put in a small one. Oh well, we can always put up another post.

We will need to wait at least 6 weeks before letting the horses feed on the luscious new grass. Then, we will only let them graze a little at a time. Don't want any colic. They are not used to the sweet green grass so we always have to wean them into the fields. Meanwhile we have plenty of hay, thanks to Joe's hard work helping Mr and Mrs Cannon harvest and bale their hay. Thanks to them too for giving us several large round bales of good hay in exchange for his work. We tried to pay them but Mr Cannon just laughed in Joe's face.

It will be interesting to see how the grass grows. Isn't that a title to a book or something?

Good nieghbors and friends are truly priceless. Is that a roller he is lifting over the fence?

You'll have to take pictures of how fast it grows. Being from San Diego live grass has always fascinated me. We don't really have any down there. San Antonio is better, we have some grass here but it's still a drought area and really grass takes a lot of water!
PS< I'm writing a long ass post now. I've been laggin I know....

I've seen those hoppers and they are neat. Lots of pasture to seed. It looks like spring in Kentucky.

How nice it is to have such great neighbors. I've been out of the loop, so I need to get caught up on your blog and read about little Annie.

Like pockets on a shirt? Us Sutherners have such a way with words. I'd hate to have that hopper on my Shirt. Good pics.

I'm gonna try this in my front yard, although it's a 15' X 10' plot. Can I borrow all your equipment?
