Not Good

As I was driving to work this morning I heard on the news that a local drive-in restaurant was on fire. Parker's is located right next to my Dad's old dental office. Lots of memories were made there.
On some weekends in the summer time Parker's used to have "50's night" where local folks would drive their restored cars and trucks and park outside. It was always neat to go during these nights. Heck, it was neat just to drive by and see the old cars and think of something like "Happy Days." Can't you just see Richie and The Fonz hanging out?
It's sad to think about Parker's never being like that again. I always remember it there, my entire life. When So would drive to town from Houston he stopped there to get 2 Starne's BBQ sandwiches to bring to my house and eat. That is one thing that he really misses about Paducah.
I hope they rebuild but let's face it, it will never be the same.

Oh wait a minute...did the b-b-q sandwich place that Scott talks about burn down?

No, Parker's sold the Starne's bbq I love so much. The original Starne's, which my sister tried to get me to believe burned, too, is still standing.

I miss that bbq, but I miss you more, So.

Don't fret too much, who knows, they could rebuild something twice as fabulous where new memories can be made. It's always possible!

You'll get to keep the memories though, right?

What is a So?

Lou, Scott and I have called each other So for years and years. We rarely use the other's name, instead it is So. Neither one of us can remember why.

There was a local joint famed for seafood. It had years and years of graffiti on the walls. And that was encouraged. People wrote love letters, their names, their engagements, jokes, etc. It burned down a couple of years ago. And all those written memories were lost. It's being rebuilt and we are starting to put the graffiti back but it just won't be the same.

Good BBQ places are rare. Hopefully, they can rebuild.

Old Haunt's disappearing is like the closing chapter in a story. But the memories are always there.
