July 4th started on a good note. Steph's boyfriend Greg came over to spend the day. We had lunch and watched a little tv then the kids went outside. Steph wanted to get Dakota out of the pasture for a little exercise plus she loves when Jones acts so silly.
Dakota come hooooooooooooooommmmmeeeeeee!
Jones ran and ran nickering to her studmuffin. Steph decided to take him to the front pasture to release him, then he could run up and see his girl. She didn't anticipate his excitement though. As she led him into the pasture he decided to take off kicking up his heels with glee. He accidentally kicked her on the side of her left knee. Greg rushed down to see about her as I removed the lead rope from Dakota. Then I ran up to the driveway, drove my car down and Greg scooped her up. We took her in the house and immediately applied an ice pack. The swelling was getting worse so we took her to the emergency room.
After literally hours of waiting and x-rays it was determined no broken bones, just really bad bruising.
Rest, leg up and crutches for a couple of days are in order for her. Thank God it wasn't worse.

And she has that lovely orange blanket to keep her company!
I am so glad so is okay! For the both of you! :-)
So, that is an old red blanket that we used as kids!
That's why horses scare me!
So do really old scratchy blankets of an indeterminate color.
Oh, no! Steph has become a So, too?
I still have an indentation in my shine bone from a horse kick. I'm glad it wasn't worse.
Dan
Glad it wasn't worse. We're never really in full control of horses, are we?
Hope she is feeling better soon ,sounds like it must have really hurt , the best and quietest horses are often the ones that nail us ,because we really don't expect it.
Oh no! I hope she gets better soon! Good thing there were no broken bones!!
Good ole Mom, always there. Glad she's ok.
So glad she is okay! Such a scarey thing.
It could have been a lot worse. A friend in college was killed when turning out a horse--kicked in the head.
Oh dang, that's rough! I knew a horse that did that buck kick spin thing every time he was let loose. His owner didn't let any one else do it since she knew it could end badly. I was mighty glad of that too, I don't know if I could have done it without getting my head kicked in. Hope Steph feels better soon!
A trip to the ER on the holiday...uggggg....glad she is feeling better....not so much fun for her in the middle of summer...hoping she feels better fast.
