What a grand weekend! Joe and Stephanie picked up Abby Friday afternoon. When I got home there she was awaitin' for her Grandmother. I scooped her up in my arms and sighed. It was just the medicine I needed.
Saturday morning we had a quick breakfast and headed off to a 'surprise.' Abby kept asking what the surprise was but she had to wait. We donned our hats I bought at the Dollar Tree and headed out.
"Are we half way yet?"
She didn't really ask that, but I kept waiting for it. Apparently she doesn't know that question yet or she would have asked it.
Stephanie wouldn't let me take a picture of her with her hat on until later on in the day. I forgot to have someone take a picture of mine in the car, but there sre one or two later on.
We crossed over Kentucky Dam.
The weather was so beautiful there were mostly sailboats as far as the eye could see.
I swear I thought I saw Syd on this one!
Onto The Trace. It runs the full length of LBL (Land Between the Lakes).
Past old cemeteries
They are all up and down The Trace. Long before the lake was dug (it is the largest man made lake in the country) lots of folks lived along there. Steph and I have ridden our horses on trails where we found several cemeteries. One had a large amount of graves of small children just about the same age. There must have been some kind of illness that claimed them all around the same time. Someday I am going to spend some time photographing them.
Finally to our turn
This beauty ran in front of us. It is a fallow deer.
The nature center is a great place, especially for children. There are turtles in this one.
Furs to feel
I had to add my brave hat to my already silly hat I was wearing to get the next couple of pictures
This is a Copperhead. The same breed of snake that almost took me down when I was five.
Red wolf
Bobcat
Barn owl
Back inside
This is the wingspan of an eagle. Joe stood in front of it and put his arms out. They didn't reach the ends of the wings. Amazing.
We all enjoyed the Nature Center. I had not been there in years and was so happy to be able to take Abby. She had a ball.
Tomorrow part 2.

How long has that place been there? I don't remember ever going there.
Have you ever tried to find the cabin?
GREAT pics! We have a place that is kind of like that in the Everglades near my home and my kids love it!
You outdid yourself on this post!
I can see the excursion did your heart good.
You were so close to us! We're about 40 miles from KY Dam. We have taken the boys to the nature center a couple of times and they love it! I'm glad you had a great time!
Great pictures and a fun place.
If you find childrens graves where they all died in 1918 then it was the Spanish Flu epidemic. It killed a lot of children and old folks.
Dan
What fun! I love to explore places like that.
What a fun day! I love all those animals but probably not as much as Abby! I bet she had a great time!!
I wanna go next time! I'll make deviled eggs for the picnic.
