Pioneer Woman mentioned winter wheat on her post today and it reminded me that I took some really cool close up shots of the winter wheat around our neck of the woods a few weeks ago. The detail is really nice. At least I think so. The farmers around here had a bumper crop this year. That is good since our economy seems to be going to hell in a hand basket.
The fields are all harvested and ugly now. But soon soybeans will be sprouting up amongst the old stalks of wheat. I am fascinated with the land and how different items grow. How families are able to make a living by providing food for the population. Call me weird but I like it and I am glad, even though I have to drive 40 miles per day to work and back I am able to see nature and fields of corn, beans and here in Kentucky tobacco.

I agree Jenn. When my son turned 6 years old we were living in Texas, the outskirts of Houston in a little town called Alvin. It was a nice little town but way too close to the big city so I decided I wanted to raise my son back home, here in Kentucky. I have never ever regretted moving back home. In fact, a few years ago, my son thanked me for moving back here. He said that he wouldn't have wanted to grow up anywhere else. It doesn't get much better than that!
Yay bumper crop! Lordy knows the US is going to need it. We're still in a draught down here. I don't think I would mind a long commute as long as the view was pretty. I lived in MD a long time ago and did a long rural commute and I thought was just gorgeous. I would just love to live out in the country but it's just not pracrical for us right now. So until then I'm in far out suburbia, our happy medium.
Bee-youtiful pictures!
Who knew wheat was so beautiful.
Great pics! I need a new camera, what are you using?
Great pictures. And I thought that one on my blog was good. I'll go take it off now! :) I wouldn't call our harvest a bumper crop, but its making us a little money so we can't complain.
BHM, I got a new Cannon S5 IS for Mother's Day. Bought it on Ebay and got a good deal. I love it! They are around $300 - $350 I think. Mine on ebay was $315 including s&h.
