Joe has a tradition of getting all of the kids scratch-off tickets for Christmas. The kids always look forward to it albeit no one has ever won much of anything. We always get excited when the scratching begins because we truly want someone to win something, $20 maybe??
Stephanie and Greg wasted no time in getting right to their goodies. I think of all of the folks here, these 2 needed a couple of extra bucks in their pockets more than anyone!
Joe helped them out a bit as they never play scratch-offs except at Christmas time.
Suddenly Steph said Greg had won something
Joe took a look at the ticket and that boy had won $20,000!!!
I couldn't believe it! Someone finally won something! But I never dreamed in my wildest dreams it would be like this!
Greg still couldn't believe it and kept looking at the ticket over and over again.
I can't say I blame him. I would be looking at it again to make sure I was seeing correctly!
Someone hollered at him that he'd better hurry up and sign it
So he found a pen and did just that
Here is the pen....I am the man....I am going to buy my cousin's Dodge pickup now...I have lots of money now.....my parents WILL drive me to Louisville to cash this ticket.....He was full of all kinds of hopes and dreams of how he was going to spend his new found lump of cash!
I can't say that I blame him either. Greg is a good guy and he deserved a break.
He still can't believe it!
Someone asked him how he needed to redeem it so he looked at Joe and his magnifying glass for help
Joe read it to him...."Prizes worth$1,$2,$12,$60 and $100 can be claimed, subject to validation by any retailer by using the form provided."
"Prizes worth more than $100 can be claimed by asking santa, or by asking your lil sister for her lunch money."
"All winners prizes must be claimed within 1 second after you realize that you are stupid."
"All winners need to validate in their dreams."
Poor Greg. He had been had by Williamson's bloopers & practical jokes!
He was a good sport though. He didn't get mad or anything. I'm sure he was disappointed as anyone would be. Especially since he had literally thought he would be able to buy his cousin's truck.
But after all Greggy....if you're gonna hang around with us, you never know what to expect. Just ask Amy.

I think I would have cried..he IS a good sport!
I think this kind of practical joke is cruel. Seriously.
Oh So, we have only done it twice and we are careful to whom the joke is played. You know Joe, he can't help himself. I told him that I really didn't know how Greg would react but he was really good about it. In fact, I think it made him feel more like part of the family.
Poor guy....I would have been so disappointed....laughed about next year and wanted to play it on someone else...
I'm with Scott on this. It would put a damper on the day. Glad that he took it so well. I would too but would still be smarting.
Ouch. We got scratch offs this Christmas too, but they were real. The only winner was Betty with a $5 winner, but we were so preoccupied with dealing with her shingles we never claimed it.
